"I just finished reading in translation to Spanish, THE MEMORY OF RUNNING (Un viaje en bicicleta).
Besides the character being so endearing, sad and yet, pure in its own way, I liked the way the novel rediscovers the United States, the good and the bad, the heroic and the grime. But mostly it reminds you of the human condition, of the pain that people carry and also, the love.
Last, the novel was like a kaleidoscope of your country. I have traveled it many times and for me it represents so many things imprinted on my mind since early trips as a child to my 2 year stay at UCLA for graduate studies: hot dogs and baseball parks, cement and highways, the music of Simon and Garfunkel, the loneliness and the vastness, the violence and the will for peace, the skins and the eyes of many colors; in the end it seemed the book would take you homeward bound, to the fears and smiles of your younger years."
